CORPS CITOYEN الجسد المواطن is a multidisciplinary artistic collective based between Tunis and Milan funded by Italian and Tunisian artists.

MANIFESTO

The collective’s artistic practice crosses performance, theatre, social and anthropological research, video-documentary, animation and writing to create new narratives of the present and investigate the complexity of the contemporary.

Through the re-signification of public space acted out by the performative and the active participation of civil society in artistic processes, Corps Citoyen works with communities for territorial development and social justice, promoting decolonized languages and narratives to counter the racialization, discrimination and marginalization of people and territories in order to create cultural accessibility in urban peripheries for fragile communities.

The collective's practice moves between performance and research projects, participatory projects in complex territories, and curatorial projects that are aimed to stress who have the right to speak in the public sphere. Defining who has the right to speak in the public sphere is in fact now more than ever a central theme in the redefinition of the roles of power that characterize the relationship with subjects who are considered minor. Western narration has a precise agency of power, which defines the Other from its own categories: for this reason, defining who speaks and the authorial space they occupy are central themes of a performative practice that wants to be contemporary and political.
